Whether you are ready for your first color work project or have long admired classic Nordic mittens, our Selbu Mitts class is just the right fit!

Using Speedy Selbu Mittens pattern by Skeindeer Knits, Liz will take you step by step through basic color-work techniques including reading a chart and increasing and decreasing in a pattern, determining color dominance, managing two colors without hopelessly tangled yarns, and keeping tension with floats.  Additional incentive: Mittens make great gifts as we enter the holiday gift-giving season!

Level: Confident beginner+
Prerequisite: Know how to cast on, bind off, knit, purl and use DPNs or magic loop with minimal to no assistance. Skills taught will include color work knitting and adding a thumb.

Materials: 15% off all materials purchased for a class at Hacer

  • 2 colors of high contrast Aran/chunky yarn. All yarn should be wound from a skein into a ball or a cake prior to class. 
    • 1 x 100m/50g  for the main color
    • 1 x 100m/50g for the contrast color
  • Needles - 8 inch DPNs or 32" circulars for magic loop
    • US 9 - 5.5 mm
    • US 4 - 3.5 mm
  • A small amount (approximately 1 yard) of smooth worsted or DK wt waste yarn 
  • We purchase the pattern for each student; the cost is included in the price of the class. We can send the pattern to your Ravelry account. Please include your Ravelry email address and Ravelry user name in the notes when checking out.
