Advanced Beginner Knitting: Fair Isle Pillow
Knit one of these 3 unique round pillows, inspired by local baskets. (Pillows shown here blocked but not backed and finished.) They are knit from the center out and are completed with a rich and sturdy corduroy back. In 3 classes you’ll learn all the skills you need to complete your pillow.
Requirements: Student should confidently know how to cast-on, knit, purl, and basic increases and decreases. Some familiarity with working in the round and stranded knitting—we will go over these in depth.
Materials: 15% off supplies for class at Hacer!
Provided: 1 pillow pattern of choice and 18" round pillow insert. ***Should you wish to have all 3 pillow patterns, they are available to purchase.
Additionally, you will need:
- 2 skeins of Cascade 220 yarn in high contrast colors or 2 skeins of worsted weight yarn, 220 yards each
- Needles: US 7 double point needles for the center and
US 7 circular needles in 24" length;
- Notions: removable stitch markers; tapestry needle, your favorite notions such as a row counter.
- Sewing tools to finish back.
Schedule: Three Saturdays in a row at 9:30AM - 11:30AM MST
Week 1 Feb 7 - Pattern reading. Review of knitting in the round. Stranded Knitting review. Cast on in the round. We will cast on together and get started.
Week 2 Feb 14 - Long carries in stranded knitting, DPNs vs circular needles, tension, trouble shooting.
** No class on Feb 21 **
Week 3 Feb 28 - Finishing Details: Extra stretchy bind off. Importance of Blocking. Making the back. Stuffing and finishing.
