Vortex Yarns, based in Taos, NM, creates extraordinary hand dyed yarns and fibers, hand spun yarns and custom blended spinning and felting batts. The yarns and rovings are dyed by owner Merce Mitchell, who also spins unique novelty yarns, blends luscious spinning batts, and creates fun and exciting knitting kits to inspire you! Merce is inspired by the nature of the Upper Rio Grande region and uses these colors and textures as inspirations to share with you on your own creative journey. Additionally she has moved her life and dye studio off the grid and uses catch water for her dyeing as well as her high desert gardening. Living in the mountains, surrounded by continuous sky, inspires her in all her creative work.
Mandala is a gorgeous, tonal (semi solid) 4-ply fingering weight yarn that is 100% non superwash Merino! Balancing a smooth, soft texture with nice stitch definition, Mandala has a mesmerizing depth of color sure to bring the enchantment of our local landscape to your next project.
